Attendance Policy

All children are expected to attend school each day. When children are absent parents are asked to return a note to the class teacher outlining the nature of the absence. The teacher will record the absence as per the guidelines as issued by the National Educational Welfare Board (NEWB) i.e.

    1. Illness
    2. Urgent family reason
    3. Expulsion from school
    4. Suspension from school
    5. Holiday
    6. Unexplained (no note from parent)
    7. Transfer to another school

On the dates specified by the NEWB, staff will return to the principal a list of all children who have been absent for 20 days or more. Staff should have a breakdown of the reasons for the absences. The principal will record the information on the NEWB website www.schoolreturn.ie. The parents of the child will also be informed in writing.

Children’s attendance will be marked in the school roll book by 10am daily. The numbers in attendance will be collected and entered in the Leabhar Tinrimh in the office.

Each child will be registered with a Clár Uimhir. The roll books should be tallied on a quarterly basis. Children who leave the school will remain on roll for one school year unless notification of enrolment is received from another school.
