NEWSLETTER – Monday 9th September 2019

Junior Infants will continue go home from school each day at 12 noon until Friday next, September 13th. From Monday September 16th they will go home at 1.40pm.

A calendar for the school year was sent home last Thursday. The calendar is also available on the school website,

Music Generation lessons in violin, brass, flute/tin whistle, piano and guitar resume next week. All available slots have been filled. A note will be issued to all those taking part with information on the day and time of the lessons.

Our thanks to Sadie Wright, Anne-Marie Mullen and Louise Moore for looking after the bedding areas in the school grounds over the summer.

Basketball coaching for 4th, 5th and 6th classes started last week. Speech and Drama lessons for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th classes commence next week. Also starting next week is a vocal programme with Leslie Dowdall for 2nd to 6th classes.

An updated Homework Policy will be sent home next week. It will include rough guideline times for homework for each class. One of the most important aspects of home work is reading. Apart from children reading it is very important that parents read to children each day. It helps develop imagination and vocabulary and strengthens the bond between parent and child.

A creative drama group are running an 8 week programme for 6-10 year olds in the Imaal Hall commencing on October 3rd. They will a free taster session on Thursday September 19th from 4.30pm to 6pm. Contact Carol on 086 3553026 if interested.

A meeting of Dunlavin & District Forum will take place tonight at 8pm in the Imaal Hall.

Kildare Cumann na mBunscol have arranged a Senior Hurling league over the coming weeks. We start the league with a home game against Kildare.

Irish Dance classes continue every Wednesday in the school hall from 2.45pm. Beginners are most welcome. For further information contact Mary on 087-6118641.

A family who live 3 miles from Dunlavin on the Donard side are looking for a child minder. It involves minding 3 children every Monday, Tuesday and 2nd Wednesday from 2.40pm to 4pm in the minders home. Please contact the school office if interested.
