Newsletter September 2nd 2024

We have had a very successful return to school. Our Junior Infants have settled in very well and will continue to go home from school each day at 12 noon until Friday week, September 13th. They should be dropped each morning at the outside doors and will be collected by their teacher. From Monday September 16th they will go home at 1.40pm.

Senior infants are also dropped to Ms. Kiely’s and Ms. Slattery’s doors each morning and collected there at 1.40pm.

We would ask all other children to walk to the back of the school each morning where they will line up when the bell goes at 9am. They will walk out each evening where they can be met at the school entrance by parents.

Our healthy eating policy is available on the school website. We would appeal to all parents/guardians to adhere to the policy in the interest of all children.

A calendar for the school year is available on the school website, www.snndunlavin.com under the newsletters tab.

We would respectfully ask that birthday invitations are not given out in school as it can lead to confusion and upset for some children.

We would ask all parents/guardians to ensure that their children’s names are on all items of clothing (jumpers, tops etc.)

There will be football training for all U11 boys in 3/4/5/6 classes this Monday from 3pm to 3.45pm. Children must have turned 11 since January 2024 and not before.

There will be hurling training each Tuesday from 2.50 to 3.50 for children from 3rd to 6th.

Basketball coaching will start for 2Blue, 2Red, 3rd, 6th and Solas Senior on September 11th. These lessons cost €10 must be paid for in advance. The cost is part of the charge schedule issued in June.

A copy of our Homework Policy will be sent home this week by email. It will include rough guideline times for homework for each class. One of the most important aspects of home work is reading. Apart from children reading it is very important that parents read to children each day. It helps develop imagination and vocabulary and strengthens the bond between parent and child. For this coming week children will just have reading homework and written homework will start the following week.

We would plead with all parents and children not to enter or leave the school at any time through either school car park. Parents are asked not to park in staff car parks or in the bus bay outside the school.

With the new road changes and less parking we would encourage older children to walk, cycle or scoot to school. Children should bring a light rain jacket to school every day as we will make every effort to go out at break times regardless of weather conditions.

All school charges should be paid in an envelope with the child’s name written on the outside. Receipts will be issued for all payments. Payment can also be made online using the following BIC and IBAN. Please reference your child’s name if you are paying by this method. Payments can be made in instalments If anyone has any difficulties please contact Mr. Moran in confidence. School stationery charges must be paid by this Friday.
