NEWSLETTER – Monday 2nd September 2019

Junior Infants will continue go home from school each day at 12 noon until Friday September 13th. From Monday September 16th they will go home at 1.40pm.

Our thanks to WWCVVC who organised a car rally in August with money raised going to Solas and Baltinglass Day Care Centre.

Parents should be aware that the Bus bay outside the school is not a parking area.

If your child has any allergy that we have not previously been informed of please contact the school office.

Please find a copy of our Healthy Eating Policy on the back of this newsletter. We would be grateful if parents could apply it to their children’s lunch packs.

Basketball coach, Lennie McMillan will start basketball coaching tomorrow Tuesday with 4th/5th and 6th classes. He will work with 2nd and 3rd classes later in the year.

Music Generation lessons will resume next week with lessons on violin, piano, guitar, flute, tin whistle and brass being offered. Leslie Dowdall will take 2nd to 6th classes each week for a vocal programme. A letter will be issued to all who expressed an interest in June on taking these lessons.

Please check your children’s hair each week and inform the class teacher if headlice are detected.

We are very conscious of the cost of sending your child/children back to school. School fees unfortunately are part of this process. We have made every effort to limit the amount of fees we charge. Fees cover items such as book rental, art & craft materials and photocopying. Also included is 24 hour personal accident insurance. This is a very important item as it covers costs for doctors, A & E, x-ray etc. for accidents your child may have at anytime, at home or in school. It will also provide cover for accidents that require ongoing treatment e.g damage to teeth. The Parents Association fee of €20 is per family and allows the school to bring in a variety of people to work with classes such as, heritage expert, Patrick Hunt, Zumba classes, engineering workshops etc. Last year we bought tables to have when refreshments are served after ceremonies. This year we hope to put some of the money towards obtaining psychological assessments for some children. It also paid for choir transport last year and is a very valuable contribution for us.

Families should not be under any undue pressure and we allow time for fees to be paid. However, payments for activities such as basketball, swimming, and Speech & Drama must be paid in advance of the lessons. Basketball lessons for 4th/5th/6th commence this week with Speech & Drama lessons commencing for Solas, 1st / 2nd /3rd /4th classes on Wednesday September 18th. Payment for swimming can be made prior to lessons commencing in April.

Irish Dance classes re-commence this Wednesday September 5th in the school hall at 2.45pm. Beginners welcome. For further information contact Mary on 087-6118641.
