  • Geraldine Whyte has informed the Board of Management that she will be retiring at the end of this current school year. She will be really missed in our school and has made a huge contribution to the school both inside and outside of the classroom since she started her teaching career in Dunlavin in September 1982 .Her commitment to her teaching post was second to none and she was deeply concerned about the progress of every child that she taught. Her leadership of our Green Schools programme over the past number of years has led to the school being awarded numerous Green Flags. Her enthusiasm and knowledge has inspired our children to be very conscious and aware in caring for our planet and environment. She will also be greatly missed by her colleagues in school.
  • Dunlavin Tidy Towns recently nominated Geraldine and our Green Schools committee to the Wicklow County Council Environment Awards and our school was awarded the schools prize and received a cheque to the value of €400.
  • The school is open on Monday May 11 from 10-11am and next Monday May 18 from 10-12 noon should any parents wish to collect books, copies, clothing etc.
  • A number of activities that some families have paid for such as swimming lessons, Speech and Drama, Confirmation retreat, 6th class tour etc will obviously not be going ahead. We will send a refund to any 6th class children who do not have any siblings left in the school. For all other children we will take the payments off the cost of next years school fees and will have a breakdown of this for all those families in due course.
  • Dunlavin Arts Festival are holding an online art competition for young artists. Make a piece of art and then take a photograph of it before sending the photo to Closing date is June 1.
  • If any children are wishing to take part in Music Generation lessons in the next school year their parents will need to email Lessons are available for guitar, piano, tin whistle and brass (trumpet, euphonium, trombone). The cost of the lessons in €210 per annum which can be paid in two instalments of €105. We are aware that the lessons were cut short this year and we will make allowance for that when seeking fees in September. The closing date for accepting names is May 31. Please indicate the child’s name and the instrument they wish to play when sending the email. The music lessons are most suited to children from 2nd class upwards but we can consider 1st class children if there is space available.
  • Congratulations to Clodagh Corrigan from 1st class who has made it to the final of the Miwadi Myway competition. She has designed a new flavour for Miwadi. Best of luck to her in the final.
  • This coming Thursday 6th class would have been due to make their Confirmation. We will invite the class to a Zoom session on Thursday next at 11am where they can see each other and meet their teacher, Ciara Moran.
  • Families looking for some different Maths activities should look at There is a list of very interesting daily activities which presents Maths in a fun way that should appeal to children.
