NEWSLETTER – Monday 17th June 2019

The Board of Management meet tonight at 8pm.

A Graduation Mass for 6th class takes place tomorrow, Tuesday June 18th at 8pm in the church.

This week is Water Safety Week in school and the children will be having some lessons on the topic in class during the week.

Booklists have now been issued and we would encourage families to buy their books in Blessington Bookstore. This can be done online. Our school receives a small rebate on the amount of books purchased.

Mrs Morans 6th class contributed €105 to Team Hope from their Confirmation money. This will go towards providing a water filtration system, mosquito nets and a brood of chickens for children in developing countries.

Staffing for next year is almost sorted. We say goodbye to Cathal Devlin who is moving to teach in Dublin. Our thanks to him for his work over the past 2½ years. Lindsey Quinlan and Karen Raleigh will be on Maternity Leave in September and will be replaced by substitute teachers. We wish them both the very best. The position of teacher for 2nd class has been advertised and an appointment will be made in the coming weeks.

On Thursday we invite Grandparents to the school at 1pm. We will meet in the hall for a short concert followed by a tour of the school hosted by 6th class. Following that refreshments will be served. We will then move to the front of the school to hoist our Green Flag for all the efforts made on Biodiversity. Members of Dunlavin Tidy Towns will raise the flag. All families are welcome for this launch.

Our 6th classes are on tour on Monday and Tuesday next June 24th and 25th.

Communion photographs are now available for collection upon payment from the office.

All the school tracksuits and uniforms are available to buy from the Back to School Store which is located on the Cutlery Road, Newbridge opposite the Boots entrance to Whitewater Shopping Centre.

Our thanks to Dunlavin Community Playschool who donated over €200 to Solas following a pyjama day.

Katie Charles will give a Zumba class to all children from 3rd to 6th classes today. This is sponsored by the Parents Association who also sponsored wood turner, John Doran’s visit to the school last week.

The school will close for summer holidays on Friday week June 28th at 12 noon and will re-open on Thursday August 29th. Solas will re-open on Friday August 30th.

Summerstar Reading Adventure will run during the summer holidays in your local library and is free of charge. Children are invited to register for Summer Stars and be part of the adventure to read as many books as they can. For more information visit

A Tractor Run takes place on June 23rd in aid of Meals on Wheels and the Active Retirement group Christmas Party. Donation of refreshments would be greatly accepted for distribution on the day.
