NEWSLETTER – June 16th 2025
- The school will close on Friday June 27th at 10am for the summer holidays. It will reopen on Wednesday August 27th. The early closing is to facilitate movement of furniture before school retrofit. The big bus will run in the morning but not at 10am and the Solas bus will run at both times.
- We held a very successful sports day on Tuesday last. A massive thank you to Dermot Hughes who sponsored ice-creams for all of the children and to the Parents’ Association for helping out on the day. A big thank you to Margaret McMahon for organising the day.
- Our first Active week was very successful with the children taking part in many activities despite the weather. A big thank you to Brenda Smullen and Sinead Keogh for organising it.
- We will have a uniform swap/exchange in the school hall at 1.30pm on Wednesday 25th. Children can wear their own clothes from next Tuesday June 24th to allow parents the opportunity to have uniforms clean if they want to exchange them

- We have recently been informed of our successful application, along with 28 other schools nationally, for an energy upgrade retrofit for our school.
The works for this project will take place over the summer holidays and will see the school receiving new external windows and doors, external insulation to the older part of the school and underfloor and roof insulation, a change to LED lighting and a change of heating system to air to water with a gas back up. While this is a very exciting development it will involve a lot of preparation work as the part of the school involved needs to be completely cleared out. The school will be off limits for the duration of the summer while the works are taking place.
To facilitate this the BOM have decided to close the school at 10am on the final day, June 27th to allow for furniture etc. to be moved in preparation for the works. Teachers will have their end of year activities on Thursday 26th.
The big bus will run in the morning as normal but won't be able to run at 10. The Solas bus will run both morning and at 10.
When we return on August 27th we hope to see a more energy-efficient up to date building. While the finishing touches will still have to be added at a later date this is a very exciting project for our school and should future-proof the building for the future.
