NEWSLETTER – Monday 17th February 2020

A survey for parents will be sent home to each family today. We would be grateful if it was completed and returned to the class teacher by this Wednesday February 19th.

Many thanks to all the parents who attended Parent Teacher meetings last week and to everyone who attended the internet safety talk last Wednesday.

The school will be closed this Thursday and Friday February 20th/21st for mid-term break.

This week no written homework will be issued in classes. However, children will still be expected to revise reading, spelling etc.

The next round of the schools Credit Union Quiz takes place on Sunday March 1st at 2pm in Toughers Naas.

A number of parents have made enquiries about educational assessments for their children. Our school has a NEPS (National Education Psychological Service) psychologist attached and she will carry out just 2 assessments per annum. We prioritise according to the greatest needs and our psychologist will select the 2 children she feels would benefit most from an assessment. This year the Parents Association contributed some funds to allow us subsidise the cost of some assessments. Currently we have 12 children on a list who would benefit from an assessment. The other thing to bear in mind is that if we assessed all the children in the school we would discover a wealth of issues that affects children’s learning. It is possible for the school to arrange a private educational assessment which would cost €400 approximately.

We have entered two boy’s teams and one girl’s team in the Forza All Ireland Schools Badminton Competition which will take place in Baldoyle on March 4th. We will leave the school at 8am and will need a parent to drive.

Our school ensemble travel to Mount Merrion on Thursday week February 27th to rehearse with our partner school Scoil Treasa for the Primary Ensemble Project Concert in the National Concert Hall on March 11th. We will leave the school at 9.30am. Thanks to the parents who have offered to drive.

Solas Teacher Lisa Boland is recovering following a hospital procedure and will not be back in school until Wednesday March 18th.

St Kevin’s Community College entrance assessment takes place on Saturday February 29th at 9.45am. Details will follow by text on the week beginning Monday February 24th. There will also be an information talk for parents on the same day. Light refreshments will be served also. Assessments and talk should be finished by 12.30pm.
