Newsletter August 31

  • All has gone very well so far in our return to school. Many thanks to all the parents and children who have observed and respected the guidelines put in place by the school. If any parents need to call in please do so by ringing the bell at the main door and sign the contact tracing register which is on the table as you enter. Hopefully we can maintain the good start and keep our school Covid free for as long as possible.
  • Many thanks for all involved in First Holy Communion which took place last Saturday. Particular thanks to class teacher Nora Halpin and Fr Douglas in preparing the children for the masses. Thanks also to Lorena Boland and Michael Moran for their help.
  • We need to update our school database and in particular need to add an email address for each family. Brigid will contact any family that we don’t have an email address for. If you have changed your mobile phone number in the last few months please let us know the new number. It is vital that we are able to contact families at short notice during this crisis. We will notify families by text for the last time today regarding our newsletter. From now on it will be posted on our website each Monday and emailed to families.
  • We will set up Seesaw accounts for each class. This will help us in case of sudden closure. We will also look at giving some homework using this platform from time to time to add some variety to the homework that is issued. We will not issue any homework this week.
  • Music Generation guitar and piano lessons will not start back until October. A number of people have put their names down for these lessons. If anyone else would like to take part in these lessons please contact the office. There will not be any flute or tin whistle lessons this year. Karen Raleigh will teach tin whistle to her 3rd Brass lessons (trumpet, trombone and baritone) will commence next week. If anyone is interested in these lessons please contact Tommy Brennan.
  • We have a list of children with allergies and this information would have been included when you filled in the enrolment form. If there have been any recent diagnosis of allergies please inform Brigid in the office on 045401495.
  • The main closures for the year ahead are available on our website. We will issue a calendar next week but might not be able to include dates for Confirmation. We will put in a provisional date for First Holy Communion.
  • Our Health and Safety advisor, Linda Gill-Ryan, will carry out a risk assessment review nest week regarding our response to Covid and also with regard to general health and safety conditions in the school.
  • Speech and Drama teacher , Kathleen Lambe , was due to start back next week but will be unable to do so for a few more weeks. However we have an excellent replacement in Deirdre Browne who has years of experience with drama, dance and musicals so we look forward to her working with 1st, 2nd , 3rd, 4th and Solas classes from next week.
