  • A huge welcome back to all our staff and students after such a long absence. We especially welcome our Junior Infants and the other children and families who are new to our school. We welcome back John O’Donnell and Margaret McMahon after career break. We wish everyone a healthy and happy year ahead in school.
  • The HSE have issued guidelines to parents which will be sent home today. Please take time to read this letter as it contains very important information regarding Covid and also the flu vaccine for children. It is free to call your GP when concerned about your health with regard to Covid. It is quite clear in the guidelines that children must not be sent to school if they have a temperature above 38 degrees, have any symptoms of Covid( new cough, loss of taste or smell, or have breathing difficulties), have been in contact with a confirmed case or have been living with somebody who is unwell and may have coronavirus.
  • Many thanks to Nora Halpin and Fr Douglas for looking after the First Penance ceremony on Tuesday last. On Saturday we will have two celebrations for First Holy Communion. Class 3 Blue will celebrate at 10:30 with 3 Red having their Mass at 12 noon. Two parents are permitted to attend the ceremony with their child. If there are any grandparents that wish to attend , Fr Douglas has indicated that they can sit at the side aisles once they maintain social distancing. Adults must wear a mask. Unfortunately siblings are not permitted to attend.
  • The weekly newsletter will be posted on our website each Monday and will no longer be sent home in paper format with the eldest child. Once we have an email address for each family we will send it by email also.
  • Solas starts back tomorrow , Friday August 28.
  • Some work has been done in our office over the past few weeks. Our sincere thanks to Thomas Harney and Anthony Deering for the fantastic job they did and for all the extra work carried out in the school during their stint. Many thanks to Ken Clarke for all his contribution to this job.
  • We are staggering breaktimes with Junior and Senior Infants, 3rd and 4th class having their breaks from 10:40-10:55 and from 12:15-12:40pm. The remaining classes will have their breaks from 11-11:15 and 12:45-1:10pm.
  • Junior Infants will go home at 12 noon each day until Friday September 11. From Monday September 14 they will go home at 1:40pm.
  • We are all learning in this return to school and we may have to adjust some things as we go along. Once we all maintain good social distancing, hand washing and sanitising and assume good sneezing and cough etiquette we should all be fine. Children are asked not to share food, toys , pencils etc. Please label all children’s books, pencil cases, lunch boxes, jackets, jumpers and tracksuit tops.
  • We will send home a form on Monday requesting up to date contact details for each family. It is vital that this form is returned promptly.
