Newsletter Monday August 24

  • First Penance will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, at 7pm in the church. Only one parent can accompany their child due to recent Government restrictions. Children can wear their normal clothes. First Holy Communion takes place on Saturday next August 29. We have had to split the classes for this to allow both parents attend. Communion Mass for 3Blue will take place at 10:30 while Communion Mass for 3 Red will take place at 12noon. Many thanks to Fr Douglas for facilitating this and many thanks to Nora Halpin for preparing the children.
  • We will reopen our school this Thursday August 27 for all classes from Junior Infants to 6th Solas will reopen on Friday. One parent from Junior Infants will be permitted to accompany their child to the classroom for the first three days of their schooling. We would ask that from Tuesday next September 1 that those parents drop their child at the outside door where the class teacher will meet them and bring their child to class. Parents from Solas can bring their children around by the Senior Infants entrance and they will be met at a door by staff. All other classes will enter the classrooms by the exit doors at each class. Parents are only permitted to enter the school by ringing the main door or by making an appointment. Parents must wear a mask if they come into school and must sign the contact tracing form at the front door. Children from 3rd to 6th class must socially distance when walking into their classroom each day. These are very strange times for all and we are all learning.
  • We have 28 Junior Infants starting and 8 other children who will be new to the school so we hope they all settle in easily and are made very welcome in our school.
  • Parents who need to accompany their children into the school grounds can do so but must stay at the front of the school and maintain social distancing. We would encourage older children to walk, cycle or scoot to school. Children should bring a light rain jacket to school every day as we will make every effort to go out at breaks regardless of weather conditions.
  • Each child must have their own stationery as there will not be any sharing allowed of pencils, crayons etc. Please make sure that your child’s property is clearly labelled with their name in particular jumpers, jackets and tracksuit tops.
  • We are splitting our break times and will restrict classes to the following groupings at break…Jun and Sen Infants, 1st and 2nd , 3rd and 4th and 5th and 6th
  • We have been informed that Music Generation lessons will start back. That means that guitar, piano and brass lessons will continue. We have names of those interested form last year and if anyone else is interested in these lessons please contact Brigid on 045401495. The fees for guitar and piano lessons work out at apx 210 per annum paid in two instalments. Some families paid for lessons for the 2nd term last year but didn’t get all the lessons so we will adjust their fees should they be progressing with lessons.
  • We expect Leslie Dowdall to return and teach a vocal music programme each week to 3rd to 6th classes so the Music Generation fee in the fees schedule can also be paid now. All school fee payments must be paid in an envelope with the child’s name written on the outside and an indication of what the fees are covering also written on the outside of the envelope. Receipts will be issued for all payments.
  • Please do not make any payment for swimming lessons as they might not go ahead this year.
  • Junior Infants will go home at 12 noon each day from Thursday until Friday September 11. From Monday September 14 they will go home at 1:40pm. Senior Infants will finish at 1:40pm with all other classes finishing at 2:40pm. We start school at 9am.
  • We are delighted to announce that we have installed a Fairy Trail around the school grounds and many thanks to Joe Dalton for his work with this. We also have put nets on our goalposts and both initiatives were suggested by our Students Council. They will be paid form the contribution made towards the Parents Association. This is a voluntary donation of €20 per family.
  • We will be contacting all families looking for an email address. We have phone numbers for all families. The weekly newsletter will be sent home by email and will be posted on our website every Monday. We will no longer be sending home the newsletter in paper form. Please inform us if your contact details have changed. With the constantly evolving situation re Covid it is vital that we have the correct phone , email and address details for each family.
