NEWSLETTER – Monday 4th November 2019

Welcome back to all after the mid-term break. Please note the following dates which have been added to our school calendar. Carol Service featuring Junior Infants, 1st, 3rd and 5th classes is on Thursday December 12th at 7pm in the church while Santa will arrive on Thursday December 19th at 9.30am. The school book fair arrives on Thursday November 21st.

The new Parents Association is up and running and would really welcome some new members. Remember there is no fund-raising to be carried out and it gives parents an opportunity to be involved in the running of our school. Meetings last for 30 minutes to 1 hour max. The meetings for the year have been scheduled and will take place on Wednesdays at 7.30pm on November 27th, January 29th, March 25th and May 6th.

The Royal Irish Academy of Music and the National Concert hall have organised a Primary Ensemble Project. We applied to be included in this as we have formed a brass ensembles in school. We were delighted to discover last week that our application was successful. This means that a tutor from the RIAM will visit the school over the coming months and will work with our ensemble. They will work on a piece for the ensemble to perform on their own and a piece for them to perform with the school ensembles. This will be performed at a special concert in the National Concert Hall on March 11th.

Music Generation lessons resume this week with guitar and piano lessons on Wednesday. A note will be sent home regarding outstanding fees this week. There will be no brass lessons this week.

Children from 5th and 6th class will attend a tag rugby blitz in Newbridge RFC this coming Thursday November 7th. They will need to have football shorts, boots, socks and gum shield. Bus transport is provided and being paid for by the Parents Association.

Folens Christmas Annuals are available to order up to this Friday November 8th. Order slips are available from the office.

Next week will be a ‘Homework Free’ week. We will hold three of these weeks during the school year.

There will be a table at the Christmas Market in the Imaal Hall this year in aid of Brain Tumour Ireland. This amazing charity was set up by a local family from Dunlavin. The charity helps to raise awareness and educate people about brain tumours while also providing support to the patients and their families. The charity provides vital funding for research carried out in the Royal College of Surgeons. If anybody wants to donate unwanted gifts, Christmas decorations or a donation for a raffle it would be greatly appreciated. Items can be dropped into the parish office or the school office. Dunlavin is a wonderful community in which many families have been sadly affected by this serious medical condition. Your support would be very much appreciated. Please contact Ann Heatley on 087-7643960 if you wish to donate.

Shona Tipper will be looking after the Christmas Shoe Box Appeal this year in aid of Team Hope. For further information contact Shona on 087-6884879.
