  • The Ceremony of Light for our 6th class took place yesterday in the church. Confirmation takes place this Saturday at 11am. Our thanks to Fr Douglas for facilitating celebration of this sacrament and to Ciara Moran for all she has done in preparing and organising these celebrations. Thanks to Jean Huntley and Michael Moran for their help.
  • Nora Halpin will take her 2nd class from last year on Friday August 21 and Monday August 24 from 11-12 noon help them prepare for First Penance ( August 25@7pm) and First Holy Communion (August 29 @ 11am).
  • The Department of Education issued a roadmap for the reopening of schools for the coming school year. We are busy preparing for that opening. The first decision agreed by the Board of Management is to split 3rd class into two class groups for the coming year. We have a spare classroom but will need to take a teacher from Special Education to teach the extra class. This is not ideal but given the Government instruction to have social distancing in place for 3rd to 6th classes we have no choice. We would not have been able to socially distance the 33 children due in 3rd It is very likely that this measure will only be for one year only but it will depend on where we lie with regard to Covid at the end of the school year.
  • With this split Jackie Allen and Karen Raleigh will now teach in 3rd. Aoife Slattery will now teach 2nd class. The parents of children in 3rd class will be notified by text as to which class their child will be in but we will follow the split made when they were in Junior Infants.
  • Other measures will include daily disinfecting of classes, extra hours provided to our cleaning staff, hand sanitisers located in each classroom and exit doors, setting up 3rd to 6th classrooms with social distancing in mind and lots of signage to remind everyone to adhere to the Covid prevention measures. The staff will meet later this month to decide on the best measures regarding break times and how best for children to access and leave the school each day. Staff will undertake some online training provided by the Department of Education and Skills to help them in this regard. Children will not be required to wear masks. They should wear the school uniform as normal with school tracksuit on PE days. Junior and Senior Infants will wear a school tracksuit at all times.
  • While we have always prided ourselves on being an open school and we are always welcome to meet parents at classroom doors unfortunately we will need to restrict visits from parents and visitors. Anyone coming into the school from August 27 must sign in and give details in line with contact tracing. Parents should only call to the school if it is absolutely necessary.
  • We will issue further information regarding reopening on Monday August 24. The school will reopen on Thursday August 27 for all children from Junior Infants to 6th class and will open for children in Solas on Friday August 28.
  • We are delighted to welcome back Carrie Lidierth who will teach in Solas from early October. Lisa Boland will teach in Solas until Carrie arrives. Lisa will then move to Special Education. Michael Moran will teach in Special Education until he takes over as principal in October
